Mining, manufacturing, and utilities contributed 32.2% to Iran’s gross value added (GVA) in 2022, followed by agriculture (13%) and wholesale, retail, and hotel activities (11.9%). In nominal terms, the three sectors are forecast to grow by 41.3%, 41.4%, and 41.4%, respectively, in 2023.

Tehran generated around 26.3% of Iran’s GDP and was home to 16.6% of the country’s population as of 2022, according to the MarketLine cities database.

Scope

In May 2023, President Ebrahim Raisi inaugurated an investment project worth IRR2.9 trillion ($68.4 million), which includes 11 electricity projects and water supply lines to 155 rural areas of the country.
